Andrew Ryan was born in Brooklyn, New York, and earned a B.A. in Archaeology from Brooklyn College and an M.A. in Anthropology from New Mexico Highlands University, where he wrote his thesis on Southwest Pueblo symbolic art. His archaeological fieldwork includes excavations at Bulgarian Neolithic sites, colonial‑era locations in New York City, and ancestral Pueblo ruins in northern New Mexico. A retired U.S. diplomat, he served in India, Sweden, Jamaica, Moldova, and Kuwait. He lives with his wife, Shefali, and is the proud father of two sons, Adit and Shaun.
